Experiences from Myanmar

Solo travel experience

Hooray! I spent a month traveling around Myanmar a few years ago and I really enjoyed it. My recommendations: - Dress modestly, i.e. without shorts and remember to cover your arms or provide yourself with a scarf/pareo for visiting pagodas. Shoes with Velcro, such as flip flops, are a good solution because you can't wear shoes in pagodas. - Check restaurant reviews! Burmese cuisine can be really good or really bad. - I fell in love with Bagan and with trekking from Kalaw to Inle Lake. - The journey can be very tiring, especially traveling by land. Roads are narrow, winding and still being built manually. Also make sure that you get visas for all the countries before you set off!
