It’s safe to use airbnb there and better to go with it because hotels in Cairo are over priced when we compare the prices.. best way to stay in Cairo is using airbnb. It’s safe in Cairo for a girl solo traveller

Local experience

The best places in cairo to stay would definitely be Maadi or West el Balad (downtown) they’re incredibly lively and diverse areas with rich history and architecture and very safe since shops close late at night (till around midnight and many cafes stay open for longer). Ive lived in cairo for 7 years so far and Egyptians are incredibly friendly and if they stare its mainly out of curiosity at the unknown. Having an egyptian friend around is extra helpful for the language barrier problem and because cairo is such a big city and the pyramids and the museum are just the tip of the iceberg and they can show you the actual way cairo worms now, not 5000 years ago. ( btw your visit to the pyramids will be rough and this applies to egyptians and non egyptians alike so i apologize in advance but its a necessary evil) Contemporary cairo, its nightlife and the many subcultures that coexist within this complex city are really what make it shine. Zamalek, Maadi and Downtown are go-to areas for arts and culture. Local bars are everywhere there and incredibly cozy and always have a fun crowd, rarely a boring moment ! The metro connects all these areas and regardless ubers are very safe in my experience (ive been in ubers alone at 2 am no problem)

Solo travel experience

It's a trip of a lifetime. Cairo is definitely a good place to discover the piramids. However the locals are too interested by your wallet. I felt like a walking ATM. You have to learn how to say no and you will definitely have a mariage proposal or two. I enjoyed the monuments and the history of this country however the locals are not very welcoming or at least it didn't feel very genuine. Might try Sharm.
